– Be it on a film set or the stage – it takes good lighting to create the right atmosphere and ultimately good sound engineering for a dialogue between actors to strike the right note with an audience. In order to further an interdisciplinary exchange of views Stage|Set|Scenery, which will be taking place from 18 to 20 June on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds, is making a deliberate move to partner with various industry associations. They include, for the first time, the platform Crew United, a professional network for film industry workers, actors, film producers and contractors to the film and television industry. “We have been connecting people for over 20 years in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and starting in summer 2019 will be in France, Belgium and Luxembourg too“, says Oliver Zenglein of Crew United. “That is why partnering with Stage|Set|Scenery is an exciting prospect for us. In the areas of lighting, furnishings and sound engineering especially the boundaries are fluid. People with experience in production can contribute valuable ideas to the theatre and vice-versa.“ Crew United will be represented at Stage|Set|Scenery with a stand and will host a discussion round.
With information on close to 300,000 film industry workers and actors, 50,000 companies and 200,000 film projects, Crew United is the largest and most up-to-date database on German-speaking audiovisual works in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The company’s focus is mainly on recruitment. Its recently relaunched website features news for film industry workers, information on film and TV projects and a classified ad section for accommodation and technical equipment.
“With Crew United we are delighted to have secured an important partner from the film industry”, said Patricia Pohle, the project manager of Stage|Set|Scenery. ”The individual sectors are gradually converging – whether it is the film industry, theatre or events. That is why Stage|Set|Scenery is making a conscious move to approach everyone working behind the scenes.“ The international trade show and conference for theatre, film and event technology will take place from 18 to 20 June on the Berlin Exhibition Grounds and represents every sector required for a successful production – ranging from stage equipment and technology to lighting and sound equipment, as well as furnishings, make-up and costumes. Held biennially, the event is co-organised by Messe Berlin and Deutsche Theatertechnische Gesellschaft (DTHG). The focus is on an exchange of views among practitioners – for example at the SoundLab, on the Safety in Action stage and at the LightLab, which is curated by lighting designer Manfred “Ollie“ Olma.
